Modern Home Extension in Camberwell
Katana was thrilled to collaborate once again with Ardent Architects on this Modern Home Extension project in Camberwell.
The original home—a solid but tired double brick residence—had character, but needed more space and better functionality.
Together, we transformed it into a stylish, light-filled home perfect for modern living.
We began by demolishing the old garage to make room for the new Kitchen and Living area.
Soaring cathedral ceilings, limed hardwood floors and a stunning half-moon window filled the space with natural light.
Two large skylights added even more warmth and openness to the extension.
The new Kitchen sits beautifully alongside the Living area.
It features contemporary appliances, clean finishes and smart storage designed for daily comfort and style.
Next, we converted the original kitchen into a well-sized bedroom, making smart use of the existing footprint.
We also restored the front formal lounge, adding modern upgrades while retaining its classic charm.
The existing bathroom required a full rebuild.
We modernised it while respecting the home’s period details, resulting in a balanced, elegant space.
We then converted a spare room into a custom Ensuite.
It now features a walk-in shower, freestanding bath, large vanity and direct access to the Master Bedroom via custom robes.
The original dining room became another much-needed bedroom, accessible from the front entry.
To meet council guidelines, we designed a feature façade with a faux timber garage door—true to the home’s heritage.
This Modern Home Extension beautifully blends old-world charm with new-age living.
The clients now enjoy a thoughtfully reimagined home with warmth, functionality and flow throughout.
