Richmond Double Storey Extension

Revitalising a 1920s Weatherboard with a Stunning Double Storey Extension

Our clients owned a 1920s weatherboard townhouse that had seen better days.
However, the location was ideal, and the home had potential.
They wanted more space, better flow, and modern comforts—without losing the original charm.
That’s where Katana stepped in with a beautiful Double Storey Extension solution.

First, we designed a large open-plan living area that connects directly to a north-facing alfresco and BBQ space.
We also added two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a stylish kitchen, and a functional laundry.
This gave the home a dramatic improvement in both livability and value.

Although the clients came with basic plans, we suggested a more efficient design.
We reconfigured the layout to improve the use of light, space, and movement.

Next, we replaced the old staircase with semi-cantilevered treads that allow light to pass through.
Stainless steel wire balustrades vanish into the ceiling, maintaining a clean, modern look.
Skylights above the stairs bring in sunshine, brightening both the upstairs and downstairs zones.

We redesigned both bathrooms with floor-to-ceiling tiles, in-situ shower recesses, and premium fittings.
Each space now feels more refined and far more practical.

In the living room, we installed feature Wormy Oak flooring for natural warmth and character.
Massive bi-fold doors create seamless access to the alfresco area, ideal for entertaining.

The kitchen, finished in bold black and white, perfectly complements the timber details.

Finally, we restored the upstairs bedrooms and hallway with care, maintaining the home’s heritage features.

Overall, this Double Storey Extension was delivered on time and within budget.
Our clients now enjoy a light-filled, functional, and beautifully renewed home—built to last.
