Contemporary Family Living: Double Storey Extension in Cheltenham
Katana partnered with a young Cheltenham family to transform their outdated single-storey house into a spacious double storey home extension.
To start, we extended the ground floor and pushed into the backyard. This immediately created space for a larger open-plan Living area and a staircase for the new upper level.
Next, we reimagined the Kitchen into a sleek galley-style design. We installed stone-wrapped servery benchtops, upgraded appliances, and improved flow, making it ideal for entertaining.
Moving upstairs, we built three new bedrooms to accommodate the growing family. The two kids’ bedrooms include built-in robes and share a bright, modern bathroom. Meanwhile, the new Master Bedroom boasts a generous Walk-In Robe and a large Ensuite with views across the backyard.
To tie both levels together, we installed a custom timber and glass staircase. We also laid new timber flooring throughout the entire home, creating a seamless and cohesive finish.
For improved indoor-outdoor living, we added large bi-fold doors that open directly to the backyard. This enhances natural light and connection to the garden.
Additionally, we replaced most of the existing windows with double glazing. This improved energy efficiency and year-round comfort throughout the home.
Externally, the original clinker bricks received a fresh render, modernising the home’s look instantly. We continued with lightweight rendered cladding on the second storey to complete the transformation.
From start to finish, this double storey home extension project delivered more space, style, and functionality. With thoughtful design and expert execution, we helped this family reimagine their home—on time, on budget, and ready for the years ahead.
