Architect Designed Extension – A Seamless Fusion of Old and New in Melbourne’s Inner East
KATANA proudly teamed up once again with Windiate Architects to deliver this stunning architect designed extension in Melbourne’s inner east.
Together, we turned a tired 1950s weatherboard home into a sophisticated, modern residence with a bright future.
Initially, the home had endured several failed renovations over the years. However, our clients wanted to get it right this time.
With a clear vision and a detailed brief, we began reshaping the property from the ground up.
To start, we added a spacious third bedroom, perfect for a growing family.
Next, we transformed the master suite by creating a generous walk-in robe and a floor-to-ceiling tiled ensuite.
Additionally, natural light was brought into the ensuite through clever window placement, adding warmth and comfort.
Moving further, we designed and built a striking open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area.
The inverted truss ceiling and clerestory windows not only added drama but also filled the room with natural light.
Meanwhile, feature flooring added warmth and flow throughout this expansive new space.
A large galley kitchen, complete with premium appliances and stone benchtops, now anchors the home.
From here, oversized doors open to a brand-new alfresco deck with a built-in spa.
Importantly, this entire outdoor zone is framed by the same architectural ceiling line, maintaining visual cohesion.
We also rebuilt the family bathroom and laundry, enhancing both with smart layouts and natural light.
Up front, a Merbau deck creates a welcoming entrance, while modern cladding and roofing tie it all together.
In the end, this architect designed extension achieved everything our clients envisioned—modern function, timeless appeal, and a home ready for their future.
